Sam Chambers spoke to LeedsLive during Leeds United's pre-season training camp in Germany and reflected on that momentous goal against Harrogate Town
Competitive targets lie ahead for Sam Chambers, but he has already sampled the dream of millions of Leeds United fans throughout history. Like so many good things at Leeds in recent years, it all began with Joe Gelhardt dribbling.
“I just thought I might as well make the biggest impact I can. The ball came out and I thought I might as well hit it, luckily it went in.” There were no friends or family in the stands on the night, sadly. The teenager had been drafted into Daniel Farke’s squad at such short notice, the tickets for the match had been long sold out when Chambers’s nearest and dearest went looking.
It was Chambers’s phone which was blowing up when he eventually got back to the dressing room after full-time and his post-match drills. Parents, brothers, grandparents and friends have had many reasons to be reaching out to the teenager. “I was really nervous. They called my name and as soon as I got there, I knew a couple of people, Archie , Charlie , so I settled down and from then just been really enjoying it.”
