Rishi Sunak and Nicola Sturgeon have had an informal and private working dinner in Inverness ahead the location announcement of two new green freeports in Scotland

Downing Street said on Thursday that the plan would create “thousands of high-skilled green jobs” and potentially bring in “billions of private sector investment” to the two areas.face-to-face meeting with Ms SturgeonThe pair met for the first time in November during the British-Irish Council summit in Blackpool, marking a thawing of the frosty relations between the two governments.

Number 10 said the Prime Minister would use his meeting with the SNP leader to “focus on the shared challenges that people in Scotland and across the rest of the UK face”, and how “both governments can co-operate meaningfully to ensure that they are jointly delivering for people, their families, and communities”.

The relationship between the two governments has been strained by Ms Sturgeon’s push for Scottish independence and the potential for Westminster to block Holyrood’s gender laws.
