Worried locals in Gorgie, Edinburgh, were unable to remove the swarm due to their protected status
An Edinburgh street has been taken over by a swarm of bees. The colony began to dominate Wardlaw Place in Gorgie after a nest fell from a resident's roof on Tuesday, July 18.
Sam Robertson, one of the residents who discovered the swarm, told Edinburgh Live: "A hive of honey bees have fallen from the roof of one of the flats and landed in the front garden. They're a protected species, and we're waiting for beekeepers to come and collect them." If you encounter a swarm, Edinburgh Beekeepers Association suggests doing a few things. They say: "Keep any people, children and pets or other animals away from the swarm. If possible, alert passers-by to the presence of the swarm so that they don’t accidentally disturb it.
"If you need to move around near the swarm, do so in a calm, controlled manner, avoiding making any sudden movements or loud noises."
