Mike Ainscough, 82, has become the embodiment of community spirit
A man whose house neighbours where three young girls were stabbed in Southport has been tending to thousands of tributes laid for the youngsters.
Living next door to the scene of the devastating incident, Mike has taken it upon himself to protect the countless bouquets and teddies from the rain by bringing them into his home each night. The tributes have been placed along Hart Street for Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Aguiar, nine.In a touching act of compassion, Mike began by setting out buckets of water for the flowers, explaining that "People need somewhere to grieve.
After starting his heartfelt mission, the former mountain rescue officer received an influx of buckets from the local council to aid his efforts. Speaking to the Mirror, he expressed his dedication: "It needed to be looked after." Following the tragic stabbings, police have arrested 18 year old Axel Rudakubana. He has been charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder and is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on October 25, with a provisional trial date set for January 20, 2025.
