Gray is exactly what Hibs need and together with sporting director Malky Mackay can drive the club back towards success says former Easter Road favourite.
Hibs needed to appoint a manager to bring the whole club back together because in the 25 years since I broke through in Leith I’d say there’s never been a bigger disconnect with the supporters.
More than anything he knows the club and knows the Scottish game. That’s key. The Hibs board at last have the right management team in place with David as head coach and, above him, Malky Mackay as sporting director. He’s on the UEFA Pro Licence right now with a couple of my pals Scott Brown and Stephen Clarke, who I work with at the SFA performance school Braidhurst, and they have been impressed by him.
Hibs have a real solid look in terms of management now and I reckon David will keep it simple. Look at the guys that have been successful in the league. Derek McInnes, Stephen Robinson, Tony Docherty and we have to admit Steven Naismith too - they all have a vast knowledge of Scottish football. I’d expect Darren McGregor to step up from the development team to be apart of the backroom team and, again, that would be a good fit. He’s been beside David on the occasions he took caretaker charge last season.
The first port of call should be right up his street. He needs to sort the backline and get a goalkeeper in to replace David Marshall. Right now they have no number one and only one recognised centre half.
