Tam fears time could soon be up for the Easter Road boss with fans turning and others simply staying away.
Where’s the fire? Where’s the passion of a man fighting for his job? Montgomery looks like a guy comfortable in the knowledge that he’s going to be there next season. Unfortunately, I don’t think that is set in stone any more. If the Hibs sides I played in under Alex McLeish and Bobby Williamson had been humiliated 4-0 at home to Aberdeen then we’d have been read the riot act. In the dressing room and publicly too.
Every week it’s the same tone, the same turn of phrase. You could play a tape recorder and hit repeat. He says the club are on the right trajectory. Well they’re obviously not - they’re ninth! Nobody needs me to tell them that was humiliating on Sunday. Aberdeen have been terrible this season and to lose 4-0 against a team they beat 6-0 last season is a shocker.
Okay, the new manager coming in to Pittodrie is watching everything from afar so players are playing for their futures. But the Hibs side must realise they’re playing for their futures too. Do they actually want to be there? Nothing they showed on Sunday will have convinced fans they do. There’s going to be another large turnover in the summer and it’s such an important window. Get another one wrong and it’s another manager bumped. Look at Hearts, signing well under Joe Savage. They cherry pick the best players from teams below them in the Premiership. Guys like Blair Spittal, Yan Dhanda and James Penrice have all excelled this season.
