Team GB's Olympic and Paralympic rowers are being celebrated with a homecoming parade in Henley-on-Thames. The day-long event will see athletes riding an open-topped bus, taking part in a rowing event, and mingling with the public.
The celebrations - due to take place throughout the day - will see athletes riding an open-topped bus through Henley-on-Thames, starting at the iconic Leander Club and finishing at the Town Hall.
They are also taking part in a rowing event before mingling with the public after the parade, and attending a private Leander Club reception. General manager of the club Al Heathcote said he was "very proud" of the rowers, and that it would be a "great opportunity to meet these current Olympic heroes in person".The PR3 Mixed Cowed Four crew of Erin Kennedy, Franke Allen, Giedre Rakauskaite, Ed Fuller and Josh O'Brien won gold at the Paralympics
The rowing event was set to start at 09:30 BST ahead of a bus procession at 11:15, accompanied by the Wokingham Brass Band, before arriving at the Town Hall just before midday. After speeches from mayor Rory Hunt and Leander captain Lola Anderson, athletes planned to meet members of the public in Market Place before boarding the bus again at 12:30 to return to the club.Driver brakes 'just in time' when tree falls on car
