Teenager, 19, diagnosed with 'ticking timebomb' brain tumour says doctors blamed her blackouts on puberty
Initially doctors dismissed her symptoms, telling the teenager they were all down to puberty.
But when drugs they prescribed failed to help, Lily's parents Wendy and Nic insisted their daughter see a specialist.'It's like a death sentence'"When someone tells you you have a brain tumour, it feels like a death sentence," the now 18-year-old said."I know that my condition could worsen and that's pretty scary.
After Lily's first MRI scan, doctors called her in for a second, explaining they were unable to see a small patch of her brain."After the second scan, I was very quickly given blood tests, admitted to hospital and then told I had a brain tumour," Lily toldWhile doctors aren't 100 per cent sure what type of tumour Lily has, it has been classified as a "low-grade brain stem glioma".Most brain stem glioma's are diagnosed in kids and young adults.
BRAIN stem glioma tumours grow in the lowest part of the brain, where the brain joins the spinal cord. It's the part of the brain responsible for motor skills, coordination, walking, the beating heart and breathing. But they can also be high grade, which means they are faster growing and spread into the surrounding brain tissue.Often, surgery could do more harm than good.persistent headaches - especially when you wake upbalance problems, or a reduction in motor skills
