An 18-year-old man has died after the car he was driving crashed into a wall during a police pursuit in Sheffield city centre.
The man, who was driving a black Ford Fiesta, had reacted to the presence of officers on Hyde Park Walk and had "attempted to flee the scene" at about 13:00 GMT on Monday, according to South Yorkshire Police. The car, which was believed to have been stolen, then hit a wall on East Bank Road after a short police pursuit and the man was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries, a force spokesperson said.
Following the crash, the force made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.Officers appealed for anyone with information about the incident, or with dashcam or CCTV footage from the scene at about the time of the crash, to get in touch.
