A 16-year-old boy has been found guilty of manslaughter for the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Pharrell Garcia in Hackney, east London. The defendant, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, admitted to stabbing Garcia once in the heart with a multi-tool pocketknife on July 23rd, 2022, following a dispute. After fleeing the scene and discarding the weapon, the teenager confessed to the killing while communicating with a girl he knew online while she was at a Nando's restaurant.

He claimed the stabbing was accidental, stating he intended to target Garcia's leg but struck his heart instead. The Metropolitan Police apprehended the teenager at a family friend's residence on July 24th. Forensic analysis of his mobile phone revealed 43 videos and photographs depicting him playing with knives a week prior to the murder. Following his arrest, the teenager sent a message to his mother requesting the removal of certain items from their home and inquiring about the possibility of traveling to Portugal. He also expressed his inability to return home.During his police interview, the teenager maintained that the stabbing was an act of self-defense. He alleged that Garcia had approached him on the day of the incident, brandishing a knife and threatening him. The teenager claimed he acted instinctively to protect himself. However, the jury rejected this self-defense claim and found him guilty of manslaughter. Judge Philip Katz KC remanded the teenager into custody pending sentencing scheduled for April 17th
