Officers are investigating the cause the fire in the city last night.
Ten people were rushed to hospital after flames ripped through a flat. The drama unfolded in Edinburgh yesterday evening, with emergency services called to the scene.
More than a dozen emergency vehicles, including fire engines, ambulances and police cars were in attendance, while pictures from the scene showed the area was packed with firefighters. Another image showed a ladder up to a balcony on a flat higher up the block, while the windows of the property in question had been opened widely.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted 6.35pm on Wednesday, 6 November, to reports of a dwelling fire at Niddrie Mill Crescent, Edinburgh.
