An 18-year-old Juarez resident was arrested and charged with human smuggling after he led Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on a high-speed pursuit thr
ough northwest El Paso Monday.
Adolfo Garcia, an 18-year-old resident of Juarez, was arrested and charged with human smuggling and evading on Monday, after he led Texas DPS troopers on a high-speed pursuit from Doniphan Drive and Spur 16 to Paseo Del Norte and Northern Pass, Texas DPS said in a statement. According to Texas DPS, just before noon on Monday, a trooper attempted to pull over a gray Honda Pilot near Doniphan Drive and Spur 16 for a registration violation.The Honda continued to evade over several miles, Texas DPS said, driving at "high speeds" and running a stop sign, until it ultimately stopped at Paseo Del Norte and Northern Pass.
According to Texas DPS, several passengers fled from the Honda Pilot, though troopers and special agents with the Criminal Investigations Division were able to capture them along with the driver on foot. Garcia was arrested and charged with human smuggling and evading, while the five illegal migrants were released to Border Patrol.
