Prawit Wongsuwon, a Thai politician and former deputy prime minister is facing heavy backlash after repeatedly striking a female journalist across the head, with lawmakers backing calls for a parliamentary investigation into the incident.
A parliamentary investigation is being pursued by a Thai lawmaker after the nation's former deputy prime minister repeatedly struck a female journalist over the head when she asked him a question.
Duangthip asked Prawit, a retired army officer, if he watched the live broadcast of Paetongtarn being voted in as Prime Minister. "Asking questions with polite words and gestures on issues related to the interviewee, as shown in the video clip that was released, clearly shows that the journalists were acting honestly," the statement reads.
"The National Broadcasting Services of Thailand would like to call on General Prawit Wongsuwan to show responsibility and for the National Press Council, the Thai Radio and Television Journalists Association, and the Thai Journalists Association to jointly find appropriate measures to protect the media."
