Some of this year's festive-themed lunches were put to the test.

Christmas isn't too far away now and that means that many retailers are beginning to gear up for the holiday season.

Sainsbury's Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Ho Ho Hot One - £4.25 What's in it? Firecracker shredded chicken on kalonji seed bread with crunchy cranberry slaw. "This sandwich is quite different from others. The bread is big and thick, so it doesn't become soggy, and it also makes it quite filling. The turkey is shredded, and there's quite a lot of filling - but not enough cranberry chutney to make it saucy enough. However, it's quite good value for money. I was also hoping the gravy mayo would have more flavour, but I couldn't really taste it."Asda Pigs Under Blankets Sub Roll - £3.

"This is one of my favourite Starbucks offerings. The chicken breast was tender, and well with the rich gravy and cheddar cheese. A good option if you think turkey is too dry, but again, won't necessarily blow you away."Starbucks Pigs Under Blanket Roll - £5.15 What's in it? Pork sausages covered with smoky streaky bacon, mild Cheddar cheese, sage and onion stuffing and mayonnaise in a white roll.

"Unfortunately, the festive veg doesn't pack enough of a punch and is a slight injustice to vegans, in my opinion. I think butternut squash can be lovely, but cold it doesn't hold a lot of flavour. I couldn't taste the pesto at all, which is a shame because I liked the sound of the flavour combinations, and it's really colourful."M&S Jingle Brie-LT - £4.

"There's no doubt for me that this is one of the best Christmas sandwiches on the market. There's a lot going on, and it all marries together beautifully. The crispy onions make the whole thing, even though it's not necessarily festive. The turkey isn't dry, there's lot of delicious pork stuffing, and the cranberry and port sauce is delicious. Beware though - it's very messy!"Pret Christmas Lunch Baguette - £5.

"This is a pretty safe and enjoyable Christmas sandwich, and a good alternative to turkey. It wouldn't blow anyone's socks off with flavour, but it's not dry, the sausages are tasty enough, and the chutney is lovely."Waitrose Brie & Cranberry - £3.75 What's in it? Thick, creamy slices of brie with tangy cranberry and redcurrant chutney, mayonnaise and spinach on bread made with a mix of grains and seeds.

"All the flavours of in baguette go together well - and because it's chicken, not turkey, it's not dry. It's quite big, and would keep you full until dinner. If you're after something hot and satisfying this is a good choice, but it's not got any extra fancy bits to tip it to 10."Greggs Vegan Turkey-free and stuffing baguette - from £3.

"I wasn't a fan of this one. The brie was very thinly sliced which meant the strong flavours you usually get from brie weren't there. It's not a festive butty to remember."Costa Costa Turkey Feast Sandwich - starts from £3.80 What's in it? Soft malted bread layered with succulent turkey, maple cured bacon, sage & onion stuffing and tangy cranberry sauce

"This was one our our clear winners. There was a good ratio of cranberry sauce to filling which gave it a nice balance. The bread was soft, the whole sandwich was delicious and the sage and onion stuffing added a nice hint of herbiness."Tesco Yule Hog Wrap - £2.85 What's in it? Pulled pork in a hickory style marinade with rosemary gravy and stuffing mayonnaise, finished with Kentish cider apple sauce in a barmarked tortilla wrap.
