Lyme Hall in Cheshire is a must-visit for any Pride and Prejudice fans, as the grand mansion served as the exterior of Pemberley in the 1995 BBC miniseries. The gardens of Lyme Hall, known as Lyme Park, also featured in the series as Pemberley's gardens. Less than two hours from Liverpool, Lyme Hall is an ideal spot for a day trip. Visitors can stroll around the grounds and see the lake from the iconic scene featuring Colin Firth as Mr Darcy.
Before or after your tour of the house, you can explore the grounds, including the aforementioned lake. Upon first arriving at Lyme, you might assume that the large lake in front of the house was the filming location for the series's most famous scene - Mr Darcy going for a swim before returning home to Elizabeth Bennet at Pemberley. However, this assumption would be incorrect. The lake in question is nestled within the expansive 1,400 acres of Lyme Hall.
