The American Astronomical Society has said that fake eclipse glasses are polluting the market place. If you did not get your glasses from a vetted vendor you can do some tests to see if your glasses are real.

You might use regular sunglasses to try and beat the sun on a regular day. But if you’re trying to watch the total solar eclipse on Monday, you’ll need a special pair of eclipse glasses. Now you have to be careful because there are eclipse glasses that you can find online and even in stores that aren’t quite specified for this eclipse.

The American Astronomical Society has said that fake eclipse glasses are polluting the marketplace. If you did not get your glasses from a vetted vendor, you can do some tests to see if your glasses are real. First, put them on inside, you shouldn’t be able to see anything except maybe a very faint, very bright light you may have in your home. Then, go outside and put them on, you shouldn’t be able to see anything except potentially the suns reflection off of glass or a puddle. If the glasses pass these tests take a brief look at the sun for a second, you should comfortably see a bright circle which is the sun.

If you’re still looking for legitimate solar eclipse glasses you can still find ones just like these for free all around Jonesboro -- including the first floor of the Municipal Building, El Centro Hispano, the Craighead County Public Library, and the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce. The first label your glasses need to have is the"ISO 12312-2" label. It is also important that a manufacturers entire name is printed on the glasses to make sure it is not a counterfeit.
