The thaw in Chinese Australia diplomatic relations is giving Australian businesses greater confidence the export market will re-open. But there are plenty of threatening cracks to navigate, writes Jennifer Hewett.

Although China condemns the AUKUS agreement between the US, Britain and Australia, it hasn’t prevented Beijing from starting to re-engage at a ministerial level as a prelude to a possible visit to China by Anthony Albanese sometime this year.This can still go badly awry. China’s latest incursion into Taiwanese airspace is just one indication of the continuing geopolitical tensions and risks that can suddenly erupt.
