They grow in woodland in the MiddleEast, and in Turkey and Greece in particular, where the summers are dry and hot, and winters cooler and moist. Ants scuttle off with the seeds, discarding them once they have eaten the sticky covering. Gardeners sow freshFor dry bought seeds, soak in warm water – with a drop of detergent – overnight before sowing. Seeds mostly germinate within six weeks, but may take longer.
