If you find yourself in Edinburgh at any point over the summer, it is well worth venturing out of Princes Street and into the sanctuary of Dean Village.

You could easily get lost wandering around the Scottish capital's twisty cobblestone streets and alleys. There are countless gems around the city you may accidentally find yourself in while exploring.

For hundreds of years, Dean Village was its own little village separate from the city. It was a prominent grain milling destination, though its success diminished over the years following the construction of bigger state-of-the-art mills in Leith. Walking around Dean Village, which is nestled along the Water of Leith river, you will spot many nods to its heritage. There are a variety of mill stones around the village, while at its centre is the iconic Well Court — which dates back to the 1880s and is where many of the workers who worked at the local water mills lived.

In terms of viewpoints, the Dean Bridge offers incredible vistas over the Water of Leith. Elsewhere, St. Bernard's Well and Bell's Brae Bridge are other clear standouts.
