From rare bamboo to bananas, Tracey and Tony have spent more than a decade transforming their corner of the city
Large houses tend to have large gardens, but few are as unique as the grounds of one home in Salford . Couple Tracey Bermingham and Tony Shepherd have been gradually transforming the place for more than a decade into the foliage-filled haven it is today. The giant Foxglove tree dominating the front garden, with huge clumps of banana plants and bamboo, gives visitors a hint at what's hiding around the back of the semi-detached Victorian house in Stafford Road, Monton .
Holidays in the UK are usually spent plant hunting and attending rare plant fairs as they're not the kind you'd typically find in your local garden centre. Recently members of the general public have been paying to explore the garden themselves after the couple agreed to open it up as part of the National Garden Scheme, which raises money for nursing and health charities through admissions, teas and cake.
