As manager Rob Edwards strode down the side of the pitch, Kenilworth Road delivered a rousing response as he raised his arms above his head to applaud. When Nuno Espirito Santo walked towards the away end to offer his thanks to supporters, he was greeted with a smattering of boos before he almost immediately turned to head down the tunnel. It came only from a vocal minority — but it will have rung harshly in the ears of the Forest head coach.
Now, that buffer is only three points and there is a chance that Forest could start next week in the bottom three, once the verdict has been delivered. If there is any sense of injustice, could that end up being the inspiration they crave? Whatever the outcome, Forest are in another relegation battle. The odds against survival for Edwards and his Luton side are still significant.
