Energy prices are set to rise three more times in 2025
Energy bills have seen two consecutive increases, and this week it was revealed that households can anticipate three more hikes to their gas and electricity bills in 2025. Money expert Martin Lewis has warned that households on the price cap could face an increase of as much as £200 in 2025, with a 4-6% price rise expected on April 1, followed by further 1-2% rises predicted for July and October.
While gaming consoles are always a joy to use, the realisation of how much they could add to your energy bill by the end of the year can dampen the fun. According to Utilita, playing on a PS4 costs 2.41p per hour, while an Xbox One costs 2.22p due to their respective power usage of 130 and 120 watts.
As for TVs, they often switch to standby mode without us noticing. Unlike in the past where off meant off, most modern TVs cannot be switched off without being unplugged or turned off at the wall. Unless your TV is completely switched off at the wall or unplugged, it's likely costing you more than you might think over the course of a year. According to Utilita, a TV consumes 40 watts of energy when in use and 10 watts on standby.
By the end of the day, this could amount to 1.78p, leading to an unnecessary £6.50 added to your annual bills. Lastly, baby monitors are a reminder that raising children comes with expenses, so it's important to avoid additional costs where possible.
