In his Record column, SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn urges colleagues to look outwards to regain the trust of Scots.

Now, many of the usual suspects might simply seek to portray this as an attempt to attack my own party’s record in Government. Some chancers might even suggest it’s a veiled attack on former leaders. But neither of those assessments would be true. Rather, it’s a call to action.

Our party conference also offers us the opportunity to affirm who we are and to be clear about what it is that we value. All politics is personal and its time we got ourselves back into the business of delivering the hope and optimism that has been in such short supply for people living across Scotland.

They want to know that things can and will get better.

But as we leave the ‘sunny’ summer months behind and face up to the reality of an autumn and winter that will also live up to its brutal reputation, folk across our nation will be reeling at news that energy prices are again about to rocket.
