Robert Maudsley has spent the last 50 Christmases in his cell and this year is no different - but, despite being in solitary confinement, the criminal is entitled to a full Christmas dinner.

The 71-year-old, who carried out four murders over four years, continues to be held at Wakefield's 'Monster mansion' prison, reportedly spending 23 hours a day in solitary confinement. Born in Liverpool in 1953, Robert Maudsley first killed 1974, murdering child abuser John Farrell.

Consequently, Maudsley was convicted of three counts of murder and one count of manslaughter. He was deemed too dangerous to be housed with other prisoners, leading to the construction of his current cell. He will spend December 25 alone in his underground glass cell, equipped with bulletproof windows, a table and chair made from compressed cardboard, a toilet and sink bolted to the floor, and a door with a small slot at the bottom for food delivery. His appeal to spend Christmas with other inmates in 2021 was denied.
