With excellent sound quality and a suite of premium features, the NeoDots from Edifier make a great alternative to AirPods.
I can remember when Apple’s AirPods first released into the wild and, I’ll be the first to admit, I thought they looked completely daft. Clearly the world disagreed as the market of wireless earbuds has since skyrocketed with Apple no longer the only manufacturer in the business.
Right off the bat, let’s talk about the sound quality of these NeoDots. Put simply, they sound phenomenal, with a bright and clear sound that feels balanced right out of the box. If you only own one Edifier product, you won’t have any issues with the companion app at all. However, other Edifier products each use their own dedicated app, which can make it especially tricky to find the right one you need in a pinch - I currently have three similarly named apps that control a variety of speakers in the home.
There’s an ambient noise mode too which uses the microphones to pipe the outside world into your ears, a feature that’s very useful for staying safe while listening out and about. Sadly, the ambient noise does sound noticeably artificial compared to my AirPod Pros, but the mode is more than serviceable for the intended job.
Another area that really impressed me was the battery life. A week into testing and I’m still yet to top them up with a charge, which gives me reason to believe that Edifier isn’t fibbing when it says the case can keep them going for 56 hours of playtime. In fact, the Edifier NeoDots tick delivers on almost everything that I’d want from a pair of wireless earbuds, especially for the price. However, there’s one area that they fall down in slightly, and that’s if you want to use them for sports.
