It’s hard to stop snapping pictures at the bespoke WanderPods on Kangaroo Island, where even the outdoor bathtubs overlook incredible vistas.

It’s while climbing into the bathtub for the 17th time in five minutes that I realise I probably left at least some of my dignity on the mainland, and I can’t get it back.

Kangaroo Island abalini jostle for space on menus besides locally grown oysters, lavender ice cream, Andermel marron and lamb. The four WanderPods are 50 minutes from Kingscote Airport and 80 minutes from the Penneshaw Jetty, where the SeaLink Kangaroo Island ferry docks.Resting atop the northern bluff of Tammar Ridge, they have been designed so that the bedrooms, lounges and outdoor baths have the best outlooks over their respective views of Karta Pintingga Country.

But the vista, the bed, the bath and the bottle of complimentary Kangaroo Island Spirits O Gin render any minor quibbles irrelevant. The pods overlook Snelling Beach, one of the most remote beaches on the island.Owner Cassandra Sasso, who has a background in interior design, explains that rather than create a beautiful hotel, she wanted to create a series of rooms she could scatter across the land.

The words: “Disconnect to reconnect. Leave your phone here, it needs a break too,” are printed on small cloth bags, and the pods don’t feature TVs or hairdryers. Power ports are placed across the room from the bed, to discourage endless nighttime scrolling.Queensland’s Scenic Rim
