Pancreatic cancer is the 10th most common cancer in the UK but the fifth leading cause of cancer death - the disease tends to remain undetected until it is too late
A doctor has issued a stark warning about three "red flag" symptoms of a lethal cancer that takes the lives of nearly 10,000 Britons annually. Pancreatic cancer is the 10th most common cancer in the UK according to Cancer Research UK statistics, but it's the fifth leading cause of cancer death, accounting for six percent of all cancer fatalities.
She points out unexpected weight loss, jaundice, and persistent back or stomach pain as key indicators to be vigilant about. Unexpected weight loss is a particularly alarming symptom, reports Surrey Live.. Jaundice is a significant early warning sign, one doctor insists, saying: "If you find that your skin and eyes are becoming more yellow in complexion, your urine is a darker shade of yellow or orange and your stools are pale in colour, this is another early cause for concern. Jaundice occurs when pancreatic cancer blocks the bile ducts, affecting the flow of bile."
Dr Missick cautioned: "Pancreatic cancer symptoms typically become noticeable when the disease is in its later stages after the tumour has invaded surrounding tissues or spread to distant organs. This is one of the reasons why early detection of pancreatic cancer is challenging and why routine check-ups with your doctor or GP are so important."
