SAN ANTONIO - Every year, more than 1,200 young adults age out of the Texas foster care system, but many of them end up in less-than-ideal situations.

Studies show that foster youth are more likely to experience homelessness, be arrested, and less likely to finish school.SAMMinistries in San Antonio tells us they've served 271 young adults since opening their Young Adult Stability and Support Center two years ago. Of that group, about 44% have experience with the foster care system.55% of the population served is employed, and another 23% are not employed but in school.

Khristan says these results make her "hopeful that we do have a future of change, and that those statistics will change." There are a variety of support services available such as Vocational Assessment and/or Training; GED Classes; Preparation for College Entrance Exams; Driver Education; High School Graduation Expenses Counseling; and Volunteer Mentoring to Provide Guidance and Support.
