More showers and thunderstorms expected
For the third day in a row, the Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms. The warning is in place from 11.30am this morning until 7pm this evening. As with the previous two warnings, we are being told to expect heavy showers and thunderstorms which are likely to cause travel disruption and flooding.
The warning covers most of England, stretching all the way from Northumberland down to London. The warning also covers many counties in the South East including Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. It does however miss the Norfolk and Suffolk coast so those living in more central areas of the county have more chance of seeing more heavy rain.
The Met Office says that there is a good chance that driving conditions will be affected with an increase in spray, standing water and hail making journeys by road much longer. Delays to train services are also possible. It also says: "There could be damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes. Some flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures."
We are being warned to prepare for short term loss of power and other services too as falling trees could bring down power lines.
