Small but perfectly formed (with two good pubs!)
Many vehicles will have passed through the tiny village of Bickerstaffe on their way to the historic market town of Ormskirk. And a chunk of those have probably never stopped to take a look around.
There's an abundance of reasons Bickerstaffe is worth stopping for. It may be small but its community togetherness is far from it, with residents coming together each summer to organise Bickerstock, a family-friendly music festival. That collective community generosity, fun and kindness stretches to the mini book exchange library tucked inside inside a traditional red phone box. And if green space and nature if what you crave, then Biikerstaffe has field-loads of that, too.
During World War II, it is understood to have been used by troops to move munitions from the ordinance factory in nearby Kirkby for storage while land mines also dropped there. The ancient Holy trinity Church sits in the heart of the village like a beacon while scattered within and around Bickerstaffe are cottage hamlets, terraced cottages and plush-green field.
