The pair clashed at the conclusion of the pulsating 3-3 draw at Ibrox earlier this month and the former Norwich star is adamant their issues with each other are borne out of a desire to fill their boots with silverware. McGregor has won 20 trophies at Celtic and Cantwell is adamant he possesses the same drive, if not more, to follow suit with the Viaplay Cup in his personal cabinet.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Cantwell said: "There's a rivalry there, right? Listen, there are things which are said on the pitch and things which are said off the pitch. And, as a player, I think you should respect. I want to win probably just as much as he does, probably a little bit more, to be honest, because he has been up here a long time. It's a rivalry, it's a competition. Both teams want to win, both teams need to win. It stops there, that's all it is.
He added: "The fans who idolise us and watch us and support us, the one thing they ask from a baseline is the person in that shirt they're representing gives absolutely everything. As a player, you have to know what you are signing up for. I did, don't get me wrong, have some things caught be by surprise? A little bit, yes.
"I came from a club which was a little bit different set-up, different league, different country. So, it's a bit of adapting and understanding what is required of me from now until the end of the season, I really hope I can provide what I want to."
