Referee Don Robertson said he had no option but to call the match off, with Dens Park supremo John Nelms asking for a delay.
Dundee boss Tony Docherty claimed Dens Park was “perfect” for football as he spoke shortly after the decision to call off their game against Rangers.
Docherty said: “I look at the pitch and conditions now and it is a perfect day for a game of football. But you can't ignore the fact - and Rangers admitted that they stayed at the Old Course in St Andrew's last night, they seen - it has been torrential here. I live here. If it had maybe been given a wee bit longer? But I am not going to question the officials decisions. That is their job, we've all got one to do and that is their decision and we abide by that and get on with it.
“We want the pitch to be as pristine as any club coming to play on it. That is where my disappointment lies. We've been very good at home of late and really looking forward to it. The boys are gutted the game has been postponed. We will pick up on it later on in the season and hopefully retain that home form we have got and take it into that match. There has been a few anomalies that has affected my team this season - particularly the two Old Firm games.
