Spanish holidaymakers might want to keep their tops on if they want to avoid a stern talking to next time they start stripping off in the heat
Brits abroad are a tourist category in and of themselves. Often known for our love of getting sozzled in the sunshine, as well as for getting a one-day sunburn, some holidaymakers hailing from the UK might find themselves in hot water if they start stripping off at a popular Spanish destination.
And if there was any doubt that this campaign has British tourists in mind, the signs are printed first in English with a series of warnings, while there is a smaller Spanish translation underneath. It urges tourists to wear an article of clothing on their upper half at all times.Malaga locals have long seen half-naked Brits as a problem in their Mediterranean-facing city, first passing a law in 2023 to ban walking around in public without being fully dressed, according to the Independent.
The signs in Malaga are an attempt to control this over tourism issue, reminding visitors about their responsibility to keep the city clean and respect its various monuments, heritage sites, and public spaces. But they go quite a lot further, reminding loud and annoying British tourists to "not be conspicuous."
