AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Saturday morning, dozens of law enforcement personnel filled the streets of St. Augustine to bring awareness to athletes with intellectual disabilities as part of the St. Johns County Law Enforcement“We want her to be active and she likes to be active," Maria Hennek said, who was running in the event.

“We got involved with Special Olympics as soon as we could after we got here, so she could be part of the community, that was very important to us and we want her to be part of the community, be with other kids, with other adults," Hennek said. "This race has totally evolved into something special now. Today, it’s not just the route, the route is through the historic city, with our special members of our community that are just a part of us and a part of our family," St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick said.
