A tornado tore through Brook Park, leaving a trail of destruction and closing the recreation center and several city parks.
Damage from the EF-1 tornado that touched down in Brook Park Aug. 6 included the metal roof of the recreation center being partially torn off. The center is now closed indefinitely for repairs.The National Weather Service said the tornado that tore through Brook Park was 350 yards wide, with peak winds reaching 104 mph, classifying it as an EF-1.
Metal siding collapsed on a garage near Carol Drive and Middlebrook Boulevard, while power poles were downed or leaning along West 130th Street. “After assessing the damage at the Brook Park Recreation Center, we will be closing the center until further notice for needed repairs,” Orcutt said.
