She told her mum she loved her forever and thanked her for everything 💔
Grace Fyfe, 17, drowned after falling from the Humber Bridge earlier this year after trying to call a friend and sending a loving text to her mum. An inquest in Hull heard of the final hours before Grace's death, including when she arrived at the Humber Bridge in the early hours of Sunday, March 28, 2021.
The female staff member was one of the employees patrolling the bridge in the early hours of that Sunday. She said staff are always on duty in patrol vehicles stationed at either side of the bridge or driving up and down. She said: "I quickly arrived and asked her to come and talk to me. But she was already over the railing and said nothing before letting go and falling over the edge. That was the first time I had witnessed anything like that directly in my 28-years doing this job."
“While she could sometimes be a nightmare she always tried to help. There was a girl at school being bullied and she helped her. Grace loved drama and she wanted to be a drama teacher.” She got a job in 2019 but lost it when the Covid pandemic hit. After applying for a number of jobs, she managed to get another. The last time Ms Young saw her daughter was on March 14 which was Mother’s Day. Grace came round with a card and present.
In a statement, one friend said she was a few years older than Grace and they got to know each other while working at a takeaway. She said: "Grace looked on me as like a big sister. That night she called and said her on-off boyfriend and his friend had turned up and she wanted him to leave. She sounded a bit drunk.
