Engineers have repaired damaged electric rail lines in Scotland, restoring services to one of the country's busiest train stations. However, some disruption is expected to continue.
Engineers have worked overnight to fix damaged electric rail lines affecting one of Scotland 's busiest train stations, though some travel disruption is expected to continue. Overhead wires in Newton and Rutherglen were badly damaged, affecting services running through Glasgow Central and Motherwell. Avanti West Coast trains from Glasgow to London and TransPennine Express services between Glasgow and Manchester or Liverpool have also been disrupted.
Network Rail Scotland said the West Coast Mainline reopened at 09:00, but that it would 'take time' to restore services back to normal. the UK-wide rail operator added: 'We're sorry for the disruption to services over the past 24 hours, and we thank you for your patience whilst we repaired the damage.' ScotRail said its services were running as scheduled, but warned they 'may still be subject to delays, alterations and cancellations while our units and crew get into position.
