Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) advises travelers of significant delays and schedule changes for buses and trams due to holiday festivities and major events.

An important travel warning has been issued across Greater Manchester ahead of Christmas week - with major events taking place. There will be delays and changes to the timetables on buses and trams across the network from December 21. A Peter Kay show, Christmas Markets and Manchester United and City games have prompted Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to urge people to plan ahead. There will be new timetables for various public transport services over Christmas and into the new year.

Specific measures are also being put in place to help manage busier days in Manchester city centre, including a temporary park and ride car park outside of the city centre. Over the weekend (December 21-22), the city will host Peter Kay at the AO Arena. It is also the final weekend of the Christmas Markets and Manchester United's home game against Bournemouth. Those travelling into the city are being urged to avoid driving, but for those who need to, a temporary park and ride area will be opened up on Cecil Street, which will be free to customers who buy a ticket to travel by bus into the city, from nearby Oxford Road. From Monday (December 23), there will be changes to operating times across the public transport network. Festive timetables can be found online here. On Boxing Day, Manchester City are playing their home game against Everton. There will be more match day bus services operating due to a surge in demand. And on New Year's Eve, trams will be suspended when travelling through St Peter's Square after 8pm due to the fireworks display. There will be service changes to all the other Metrolink lines, with shuttle buses running every 15 minutes between St Peter's Square and Deansgate-Castlefield until 1am. Danny Vaughan, TfGM’s Chief Network Officer, said: “Public transport will keep Greater Manchester moving over the next few week
