'Sue was an incredibly lovely and kind lady'
For firefighters returning from sometimes traumatic frontline duty she was a listening ear. She was known for her dedication and sense of humour.
She also made a big impact on the community, easily engaging people at station open days and other events, sharing her knowledge and experience to deliver prevention advice to reduce incidents and save lives. As GMFRS Chaplain and volunteer which she commenced in August 2017, she gave 3,000 hours of her own time.
She worked as a clerk at Strangeways prison from 1970 to her retirement in 2006. Sue was also in the Territorial Army Royal Signals 42 Squadron, where she became squadron clerk. Despite being in the higher at risk group, Sue refused to hide away during the pandemic and was very active supporting the GMFRS and Greater Manchester Response to COVID 19 at testing and vaccination centres and in schools.
