The former president's attorneys called for a delay after the US Attorney's Office released more than 100,000 pages of new evidence.
READ MORE: . Judge Juan Merchan repeatedly sparred with Trump attorneys. Trump sought a longer delay after proecutors handed over new materialA New York judge ruled that Donald Trump's trial in the Stormy Daniels 'hush' money case will go ahead on April 15th after repeatedly chastising the former president's lawyers for demanding a delay.
Prosecutors 'went so far above and beyond what they were required to do that really it's odd that we're even here taking this time,' the judge said. The trial was meant to start on Monday, but has already been pushed back by at least a month after 200,000 pages of evidence were turned over by the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
'I’m telling you, if you try to introduce something in the Mueller investigation, it’s not coming in. ‘If you don’t have a case right now is really disconcerting because the allegation the defense makes about the people’s misconduct is incredibly serious. Unbelievably serious. Throughout the Stormy Daniels hearing, Merchan appeared skeptical at claims from the former president's lawyers that the case should be delayed for months because of thousands of pages of new evidence.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg was in court and sat in the second row of the public gallery holding a brown folder containing two files. Blanche said he ‘very much disagreed’ and claimed there were ‘thousands and thousands’ of pages that were relevant to the case that needed examining.Judge Merchan cut in and asked if that was related to the Mueller investigation into Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia to win the 2016 election. When Blanche tried to protest, Judge Merchan said: ‘I decide what’s relevant. If you try to introduce something from the Mueller investigation, it’s not coming in’.
The Donald walked out of Trump Tower just after 9am on Monday morning without his usual fist pump to waiting photographers and onlookers. The former president sits behind the defense table in the Manhattan courtroom waiting for the proceedings to begin
