“It’s always bittersweet when you walk away a runner-up,” coach Jim Lipinski said. “You have that negative feeling. I tried to remind them of the great things we did throughout the year.”
AKRON, Ohio — Twinsburg’s baseball team huddled one last time in a corner of Canal Park in Akron. Players hugged each other and listened to their coach, who saw them overcome the adversity of losing their last head coach and a friend.
Twinsburg won just seven games a year ago. It had only one victory in the Suburban League, but wound up with just one loss and a share of that league’s championship this year. Casey Doner two-out single in the top of the second scores pinch runner Anthony Sulek for a 1-0 Mason lead on Twinsburg.AJ Taneja with the great play to keep Mason’s runner stranded at third to end the top of the fourth. Twinsburg trails 1-0.Drew Stevens drives in two for Mason, pushing the Comets’ lead to 3-0 on Twinsburg in the top of the fifth.Twinsburg scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth, getting wild pitch with the bases loaded to score Jack Phillips.
