Two individuals were apprehended following the sighting of a drone operating in close proximity to a prison facility. At 4:43 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, South Ribble Police received reports of a drone hovering above HMP Wymott, located in Ulnes Walton near Leyland. Subsequently, at 5:04 p.m., a vehicle was intercepted on Moor Lane in Croston. Two men, aged 35 and 19, were detained on suspicion of attempting to introduce prohibited items into a prison.

Both suspects are currently under police custody. It is illegal to operate drones within a radius of 400 meters of a closed prison or a young offender institution. Drone operators who violate these regulations may be subject to fines of up to £2,500, while individuals caught smuggling illicit substances could face imprisonment for up to 10 years. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to collaborating closely with the Prison Service to ensure the security of correctional facilities.
