Thrive and Hygienic Pigging Systems (HPS) have been named in The Sunday Times 100 Tech league table, recognizing Britain's top-performing private technology companies. HPS, founded in 1995, specializes in 'pigging services' for liquid transfer pipelines, while Thrive, established in 2018, offers a modern learning management system.
Two Nottinghamshire companies have been named in The Sunday Times 100 Tech league table, which ranks Britain’s fastest-growing private technology companies.
HPS began in 1995 when co-founder Gilbert Murphy started to refine the technology in his garage. It moved to its current premises in Beeston in 2012 and provides 'pigging services' to companies that transfer liquids through pipelines as part of their manufacturing processes. Pigging refers to technology that uses specialist projectiles to recover, instead of waste, residual liquid in pipelines or industrial tubing, the company explains.
The company’s Beeston location is “a big advantage”, Mr Elgar said, due to it being in the centre of the UK with easy access to the road and rail network as well as airports such as East Midlands, Birmingham and Manchester. “We do a lot of projects in the UK, but most of our projects are overseas – worldwide in fact. So the convenience of being close to transport links is a benefit to ourselves, our suppliers and our clients.
Only four companies headquartered in the Midlands made it onto the list. “There are so many fantastic companies in the Midlands, I have to say I’m a little surprised we’re only one of four,” Mr Elgar said.
