Queensland police have charged two women after a 26-year-old man was allegedly set alight in Toowoomba on Wednesday night.

Two women, aged 35 and 31, have been chargedParamedics were called to the Stock Hotel on Anzac Avenue in Harristown where the man was treated for severe burns.The man is in a serious but stable condition.

The women, aged 35 and 31, have been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and are due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Friday."I want to reassure the public that we don't believe that this is a random attack," she said on Thursday. "We do believe that there could be a possibility that the victim may have known the suspect persons."Inspector Smithard said detectives had only been able to obtain a brief version of events from the alleged victim before he was intubated.

"It is very unusual and very significant. I haven't come across something like this within my policing ," she said.
