After hitting Toorak last month, the Tyre Extinguishers claimed responsibility for about 40 vehicles being targeted in Brunswick and Princes Hill overnight.
A group of climate activists who let down the tyres of large vehicles to draw attention to their impact on the environment have struck Melbourne for the second time, this time in the northern suburbs.Brendan Lang has pumped up tyres deflated by climate activists overnight.
The Tyre Extinguishers describe themselves online as people “from all walks of life with one aim: To make it impossible to own a huge polluting 4x4 in the world’s urban areas”.News reports show members have attacked cars elsewhere including in the UK, Germany and France. The Toorak incident was thought to be the group’s first in Australia.
“Psychological studies show SUV drivers are more likely to take risks and put others at risk. SUVs just aren’t necessary, especially when most of us live in overcrowded cities.”in the letter. They said emergency action was needed to reduce emissions immediately.
