"Kildress has endured a few tragedies over the last while. Nine-year-old player Ronan Wilson died in a hit-and-run incident in Co Donegal in September and ex-player Noel Tracey passed away from a sudden illness in 2022.

Barry Quinn, an Irish triathlete who helped train Michael in the lead-up to the expedition, also went along. The four ended their ride outside Rory Dolan's in Yonkers, where a bench is erected in memory of Kevin Bell, another Irishman who died suddenly in New York in 2013. The Trust was created in his name and is behind 1,600 repatriations to date.

"My friends Ryan and Mary Kate O'Neill followed in a truck behind us the whole way and my wife was immense with logging and tracking everyone's donations and organizing sponsorship, banners, and t-shirts. Paddy Rooney helped massively with the fundraising. It was a great team effort."
