UCLan set to become just one of 11 UK universities with veterinary school on campus
The University of Central Lancashire has put forward plans to set up a new School of Veterinary Medicine on its Preston campus.
Currently, there is only one school of veterinary in the northern parts of the country and if plans are given the green light, UCLan's own facilities will become one of eleven UK wide. The facility is aimed at giving students chance to train where there is currently an extremely limited offer, benefiting the region with locally trained vets resulting in additional provision for the wider society.
For students without appropriate science backgrounds or grades, a one-year foundation programme in Bio veterinary Sciences offers a ‘gateway’ to continued study in Bio veterinary Sciences, or alternatively opens up opportunities to other areas of biomedical and biological science programmes. The new build element will be constructed on the Greenbank car park to the north east of the building, fronting Victoria Street. Inside, the building will provide facilities such as seminar rooms, clinical skills suites, mock theatres, study suites, dry anatomy rooms, labs, and plant rooms.
