The RAC and transport analytics company Inrix said roads are likely to be busiest between these hours thanks to the Christmas getaway traffic
Motorists are being advised to avoid major roads for six hours on Friday and Saturday amid warnings of severe congestion during the Christmas travel rush. The RAC, alongside Inrix, a transportation analytics firm, have forecast that the busiest times will be between 1pm and 7pm. Notorious bottlenecks expected to see tailbacks include the M3 stretch from the M25 to the south coast, the anticlockwise M25 between the M1 and M23 junctions, and the M53 on the route from Chester to Liverpool.

Results from a separate RAC poll involving 1,074 adults revealed that 53% favour car travel for the season for its greater freedom and convenience.
