We love a holiday on home soil. Despite the lure of guaranteed sunshine overseas, Visit Britain’s latest research found that almost a third of respondents took a short break or holiday here last summer, while 80 per cent intend to enjoy a UK trip in 2025. Below are the nine most visited destinations for domestic holidays in England between September 2021 and October 2023. The UK’s other nations also have many wonders to uncover.

In Rochdale, there’s the reopened Town Hall, a grand Victorian-era building that now hosts events, exhibitions and a new restaurant.Dudley is one of the West Midlands backdrops to the forthcoming Peaky Blinders film and full of industrial heritage – visit The Black Country Living Museum. At Roundhouse Birmingham (a restored building filled with independent businesses), you can book kayaking experiences on the canals.
