Police forces across the country are on standby to deal with more than 130 protest events today
Police forces nationwide are bracing for more than 130 protest events today, with disruptions anticipated across nearly every region, according to police insiders.
Out of 18,000 public order-qualified officers in the country, about 33 percent are on immediate standby, with command ready to deploy additional forces if deemed necessary. As of now, the belief is that 6,000 will suffice. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine, leading the operations in London, remarked: "This country is faced with one of the worst spates of violent disorder in the last decade. This is a national critical incident and we will do everything in our power to protect London and its communities."
He praised his officers' bravery: "Our officers put the safety of others above that of their own. They have faced dangerous and violent scenes and verbal abuse in the name of public service and keeping the King's peace. They will continue to fulfil their duty in the coming days and weeks."
